Cognitive Affective and Community ~ a paper
by Trae Stewart, Assistant Professor of Education
a viewpoint ~ during an intense period of identity construction, adolescents are disconnected from adult, civic life and the opportunity to engage in activities important to society, and to receive rewards associated with such work. Adolescents, in turn, are apathetic to the immediate problems affecting society and are unlikely to become interested and engaged adults. This study seeks to determine the affective impacts of mandatory service-learning on adolescents, and the role that these impacts might have on helping adolescents to create a more civic-oriented identity.
